# LIMA Desktop > The complete LIMA Desktop documentation from https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/, with every page in one file. ## LIMA Desktop Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/ LIMA Desktop is a Windows-based AI screen reading assistant designed for blind and low-vision users. Unlike traditional screen readers that rely on fixed, pre-programmed output, LIMA uses advanced AI to understand and describe what's on your screen in natural, conversational language. !!! note LIMA Desktop was previously called LIMA Screen Reader. !!! info "Version" This documentation covers **LIMA 2.0.0.0**, released on 20 October 2026. You control LIMA with your voice or keyboard — no mouse required. ### How LIMA Fills Gaps Left by Traditional Screen Readers Tools like NVDA and JAWS are excellent at reading structured content — menus, form fields, and document text. But they struggle with: - **Inaccessible visuals** — charts, graphs, images, and buttons and controls that apps draw themselves and never label - **Dynamic web content** — modern websites that update themselves as you use them, without reloading the page - **Natural language understanding** — you must learn exact commands rather than asking naturally - **Context-aware descriptions** — traditional readers read text literally; they don't interpret meaning LIMA addresses these gaps directly: | Capability | NVDA / JAWS | LIMA | |---|---|---| | Structured document reading | Yes | Yes | | Natural voice commands | No | Yes | | AI image & chart description | No | Yes | | Dynamic web content | Limited | Yes | | Multiple input methods | Keyboard only | Voice + keyboard | | Supported languages | Many | English, Vietnamese, Tagalog | ### Next Steps - [Install LIMA](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/installation/) - [Quick Start guide](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/quick-start/) - [Browse all features](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/) - [Privacy & your data](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/privacy/) ### Using these docs with an AI assistant All of the LIMA Desktop documentation is also available as a single text file: [LIMA Desktop documentation for AI assistants](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/llms-full.txt). Give this link to an AI assistant and it can read every page at once, rather than one page at a time. ## Installation Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/installation/ ### System Requirements These are the specifications Roscommon Systems recommends for the best experience with LIMA. | Requirement | Recommended | | --- | --- | | Operating System | Windows 11 (64-bit) | | RAM | 8 GB | | Processor | 2.5 GHz quad-core | | Display | 1920×1080 (1280×1024 minimum) | | Internet connection | High-speed connection — required for AI features | | Microphone and audio | A good-quality microphone and headphones. A microphone is required for voice control. | | Monitors | A single-monitor setup | | Screen reader | NVDA installed — recommended if you are fully blind, so you can use LIMA alongside it | ### Installation Steps 1. **Download the installer** from [roscommon.systems/lima](https://www.roscommon.systems/lima). 2. **Run the installer** (`LIMA_Install.exe`). If Windows Defender SmartScreen appears, select **More info**, then **Run anyway**. 3. **Accept the licence agreement** and follow the on-screen prompts to choose an install location. 4. **Complete the installation.** LIMA will launch automatically when the installer finishes. 5. **Sign in with your Google account** in the window that appears on first launch. Select **Sign in with Google** — your browser opens so you can choose your account, then returns to LIMA automatically. LIMA remembers the session, so you won't need to sign in again on future launches. !!! warning "Use your purchase email" Sign in with the **same email address you used to purchase LIMA**. Your plan is matched to your account by email, so signing in with a different address will drop you to the free tier. If you don't have a plan yet, select **Buy a plan** to open the [Roscommon Systems store](https://shop.roscommon.systems/). !!! tip After signing in, you can configure your preferred voice, language, and other options in [Settings](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/settings/). ### Plans LIMA offers four plans. Your plan is tied to the Google account you sign in with, so you can use LIMA on any computer by signing in — there is no limit on the number of devices. | Plan | Usage | AI models | | --- | --- | --- | | **Free** | A starter usage allowance that resets each month. If you use it up, wait for it to reset or upgrade for a larger allowance. | The models available on every plan: Qwen3.8 (the default) and Muse Glimmer. | | **Go** | A larger monthly allowance than Free. | Adds DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. | | **Standard** | A larger monthly allowance than Go. | Adds Kimi K2.6. | | **Pro** | The largest monthly allowance. | Every model, adding Opus 5.5, GPT-5.5, and GPT-5.6 Luna. | To buy, change, or manage a plan, visit the [Roscommon Systems store](https://shop.roscommon.systems/). You can view your current plan and usage anytime from **the File menu, then Subscription Information**. For what each model does, see [Settings, then Available AI models](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/settings/#available-ai-models). ## Quick Start Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/quick-start/ This guide gets you from install to your first voice command in five steps. ### Step 1 — Launch LIMA Open LIMA from the Start menu or desktop shortcut. LIMA plays a short startup sound and its main window opens. The window shows a status indicator that changes as LIMA listens, thinks, and speaks, so you always know what it is doing. !!! note "First launch: the Welcome Tour" The first time you open LIMA, a guided **Welcome Tour** runs automatically. It introduces the main window controls, teaches you the hotkeys, and speaks each step aloud. Your microphone is muted during the tour, so you answer by **typing** into the text box: type `next` (or `ok`) to move on, `repeat` to hear a step again, or `skip` to leave the tour. LIMA also asks for your name so it can greet you personally. You can replay the tour anytime from **the Help menu, then Replay Welcome Tour**. !!! note "LIMA runs once, and can stay in the system tray" Only one copy of LIMA runs at a time. If you open it again while it is already running, LIMA tells you to use the window that is already open. If you turn on **Minimize to tray on close** in **Settings, then Features**, closing the window keeps LIMA running in the system tray, the notification area of the taskbar. Select the LIMA icon there to bring the window back, or choose **Exit** to close LIMA completely. ### Step 2 — Activate voice input Press `Ctrl+Alt+U` to start voice mode. LIMA says *"Voice mode on"* to confirm it is now listening. Press `Ctrl+Alt+U` again to stop, and LIMA says *"Voice mode off"*. ### Step 3 — Give your first command Try a simple command to get familiar with how LIMA responds: > *"What's on my screen?"* LIMA will describe the currently focused window in natural language. ### Step 4 — Try a web task > *"Open Google Chrome and search for the weather in Dublin."* LIMA interprets the full instruction and carries it out step by step — no need to break it into smaller commands. ### Step 5 — Use quick input If you prefer not to use your voice, every LIMA feature is also reachable by keyboard. Press `Ctrl+Alt+H` to open the quick input field, then type your command and press Enter. --- ### Useful first commands to try | Say... | What happens | |---|---| | *"Describe what I'm looking at"* | AI description of the current screen | | *"Read this page to me"* | Reads all visible text on screen | | *"Open [app name]"* | Launches an application | | *"Click [button name]"* | Clicks the named UI element | | *"Type [text]"* | Types text into the focused field | | *"Search the web for [topic]"* | Opens your default browser and searches | !!! tip LIMA understands natural phrasing. You don't need to memorise exact commands — just describe what you want. ### Next steps - [Full feature overview](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/) - [Start a new conversation or reopen an old one](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#conversations) - [Complete command reference](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/commands/) - [Customise hotkeys and voice](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/settings/) ## Features Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/ ### Voice Control LIMA's voice control understands natural language, so you can give commands the same way you'd ask a person for help. #### Basic actions - Minimise or maximise the current window - Click buttons and links by name - Scroll up or down - Dictate and edit text in any input field #### Application management - Launch any installed application by name - Open Windows Settings pages by name (e.g. "open Bluetooth settings") #### Web browsing - Open a website or search the web by voice - Click links and fill in forms by voice - Go back, forward, or refresh by asking LIMA to click the browser's on-screen buttons --- ### Screen Reading & Observation LIMA reads your screen using AI — it looks at what is actually shown, not only the labels apps hand to a screen reader. This means it can describe content that traditional screen readers cannot reach. - **Text reading** — reads visible text on any window, webpage, or document - **Image description** — AI describes photos, diagrams, charts, and graphs in plain language - **Descriptive Video Service (DVS)** — automatically narrates what is happening on screen during YouTube and Facebook videos, giving you an audio description of the visual content - **Dynamic Website Narration (DWN)** — automatically reads out changes on a webpage as you browse, keeping you informed of live-updating content --- ### Computer Automation Tell LIMA to carry out multi-step tasks in one instruction: > *"Open my email, find the latest message from Sarah, and read it to me."* LIMA works through the task one step at a time, telling you what it is doing as it goes. #### Approving actions Anything that changes what is on your screen or on your computer waits for your say-so. LIMA says what it is about to do, and asks "Yes or no?". A small window near the top of the screen also shows the step, with **Yes** and **No** buttons. Nothing is clicked, typed, or opened until you answer: - Press `Y` to approve it — the action goes ahead - Press `N` to deny it, then say or type what to do instead You don't need to switch to the window first: while LIMA is waiting, `Y` and `N` answer it from anywhere, and whatever you had open, such as the Start menu, stays open. Until you answer, those two keys don't type into other programs. `Ctrl+Alt+Y` and `Ctrl+Alt+N` also approve and deny. Looking things up happens straight away, without asking: - Describing what is on your screen, or checking whether a program is installed - Searching the web - Reading and searching your files — LIMA tells you which file it read, not what was in it - Saving a memory, or changing the voice settings - Looking up what a connected app can do. Actually doing something in the app still asks first — see [Connections](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#connections-online-apps) #### When a step doesn't work If a step fails, for example because LIMA can't find the button it wanted to select, LIMA tells you what went wrong and tries another way. Each new attempt still waits for your approval and counts toward **Maximum agent steps**. Press `N` to deny an attempt and tell LIMA what to do instead. LIMA can't see or control programs running as administrator, such as Registry Editor, unless LIMA is also running as administrator. LIMA tells you when this is the problem. See [LIMA says a window is running as administrator](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/support/#lima-says-a-window-is-running-as-administrator). #### Step limits A long task can need a lot of steps. LIMA stops once it reaches **Maximum agent steps** in [Settings](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/settings/) and tells you it hit the limit, so you are never left wondering why it stopped. You can raise that setting when a task needs more room, but be careful: setting it too high risks LIMA getting stuck in a loop. --- ### Conversations LIMA saves each conversation on your computer, so you can start fresh without losing earlier ones. Both options are in the **Conversations** menu. - **New Conversation** starts a new conversation. Your current one stays saved in Conversation History. You can also type `/new` in the message box and press `Enter`. - **Conversation History** lists your saved conversations. The one you are in is marked **(current)**. In Conversation History, use the **Up** and **Down** arrow keys to choose a conversation, then: - **Open** — reopen the conversation and carry on where you left off - **Delete** — delete the selected conversation - **Delete All** — delete every saved conversation LIMA asks you to confirm before deleting. Deleted conversations can't be brought back. --- ### Memory LIMA can remember information across sessions. Ask it to remember a fact, preference, or file location and it will recall it in future conversations. You can also open the **Memories** menu, then select **Manage Memories** to read, add, edit, or delete memories using the keyboard. Each memory has an automatically assigned number instead of a topic. You can edit its content, but its number stays the same. Numbers are never reused, even after deleting all memories or restarting LIMA. Saved changes apply to subsequent AI requests immediately and are kept when you restart. LIMA holds up to 10 memories. Adding a memory when the list is full replaces the oldest one; editing a memory does not change its place in the list. See [Managing Memories](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/commands/#managing-memories) for step-by-step instructions. Existing installations with more than 10 memories keep those memories when upgraded; adding replaces just the oldest, and deleting can bring the list down to the usual limit. --- ### Connections (online apps) Connections let LIMA use online apps for you, such as Todoist, Notion or Dropbox. Once an app is connected, you can ask LIMA to add a task, find a note or check a booking in that app, by voice or by typing. The technical name for this kind of online app connection is an MCP server. See [Using connected apps](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/commands/#connected-apps) for example requests. - Connections are available on every plan. - Only online apps are supported. Apps that have to be installed on your PC are not supported yet. #### Opening Connections The **Connections** menu has no shortcut key of its own. To open it: 1. In the LIMA window, press `Alt` to move to the menu bar. 2. Use the `Left Arrow` and `Right Arrow` keys to move to **Connections**. It comes after **Memories** and before **Help**. 3. Press `Down Arrow` to open the menu, then select **Manage Connections** (or press `M`). The **Connections** window opens with focus in the list of your apps. #### The Connections window Each app in the list is read as one line: its name, whether it needs installing, how it signs in, and its state. For example: > *"Todoist. Online, nothing to install. Browser sign-in. On, connected, 12 tools."* **Install** is always *"Online, nothing to install"*. **Sign-in** is one of: - **Browser sign-in** — you sign in on the app's own website, in your web browser - **API key** — you entered a key that the app gave you - **No sign-in** — the app works without an account **State** is one of: | What LIMA says | What it means | | --- | --- | | **On, connected, *number* tools** | The app is working. The number is how many actions the app offers LIMA. | | **On, checking** | LIMA is connecting to the app right now. | | **On, needs sign-in** | You need to sign in to the app again. Select the app, then select **Sign In**. | | **On, could not be reached** | LIMA could not reach the app, usually because of a problem with the internet connection. | | **On, not working** | LIMA reached the app, but something went wrong, for example the app did not accept the API key. The app's details say why. | | **Off** | The app is turned off. LIMA cannot use it, but its sign-in is kept. | Press `Tab` from the list to reach **App details**, a read-only field with the selected app's name, address, what it's for, sign-in, state, a link to its documentation if there is one, any message from the last connection attempt, and the names of its tools. Press `Tab` again to reach the buttons, in this order: **Add**, **Sign In** (or **Reconnect**), **Turn Off** (or **Turn On**), **Documentation**, **Delete** and **Close**. A button that doesn't apply is unavailable and skipped, for example **Documentation** for an app without documentation. If you haven't added any apps yet, **App details** says *"No apps are connected. Select Add to connect one."* When LIMA starts, it checks each app that is turned on in the background. It never opens your browser on its own: signing in only ever starts from the **Connections** window. #### Adding a suggested app 1. In the **Connections** window, select **Add**. The **Add App** window opens with focus in the search box. 2. Type part of an app's name or what it is for, for example *tasks*, *calendar* or *email*. Upper and lower case and accents don't matter. 3. Press `Down Arrow` or `Enter` to move to the **Suggested apps** list. When you reach it, your screen reader also reads how many apps match your search. 4. Use the `Up Arrow` and `Down Arrow` keys to choose an app. Each suggestion is read with its name, what it is for, *"Online, nothing to install"*, and how it signs in. Choosing an app fills in its details in the fields after the list. 5. Press `Enter`, or select **Add and Connect**. LIMA saves the app and connects to it. To read about the chosen app before adding it, select **Open Documentation**. It opens a page about using the app in your web browser. Not every app has one. While LIMA connects, a window titled **Connecting to Todoist** says: *"Connecting to Todoist. If your web browser opens, sign in there, then come back to LIMA."* - For an app with **Browser sign-in**, your web browser opens at the app's sign-in page. Sign in and allow LIMA access. When the browser page says *"Signed in to LIMA"*, close the tab and return to LIMA. You have five minutes to finish. - To stop, select **Cancel** or press `Escape`. When it finishes, a message tells you how it went: **Connected**, *"Todoist is connected. 12 tools are ready for the assistant."*, or **Not connected** with the reason. If the app did not connect, it still stays in your list, so you can fix the problem and select **Sign In** or **Reconnect** later. See [Support](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/support/#an-app-needs-me-to-sign-in) for what each message means. ##### Suggested apps LIMA downloads its list of suggested apps from the internet, so the list can change without a LIMA update. At the time of writing it includes: | App | What it's for | Sign-in | | --- | --- | --- | | Airtable | Databases and spreadsheets | Browser sign-in | | Any.do | Tasks, lists and reminders | Browser sign-in | | Asana | Tasks and projects for teams | Browser sign-in | | Atlassian | Jira issues and Confluence pages | Browser sign-in | | Basecamp | Projects, to-dos and team messages | Browser sign-in | | Cal.com | Meeting scheduling and bookings | Browser sign-in | | Calendly | Meeting scheduling and bookings | Browser sign-in | | Canva | Designs, presentations and social media posts | Browser sign-in | | ClickUp | Tasks, documents and projects | Browser sign-in | | DeepWiki | Answers about open-source projects on GitHub | No sign-in | | Dropbox | Files and folders | Browser sign-in | | Evernote | Notes and notebooks | Browser sign-in | | Fireflies.ai | Meeting recordings, transcripts and notes | Browser sign-in | | Home Assistant | Smart home: lights, switches and other devices | API key | | Hugging Face | AI models, datasets and research papers | No sign-in | | Kiwi.com | Flight search and prices | No sign-in | | Linear | Issues and projects for software teams | Browser sign-in | | Microsoft Learn | Official help for Windows, Office and other Microsoft products | No sign-in | | monday.com | Projects and team boards | Browser sign-in | | Notion | Notes, documents and databases | Browser sign-in | | Otter.ai | Meeting recordings, transcripts and notes | Browser sign-in | | PayPal | Invoices, payments and disputes for PayPal business accounts | Browser sign-in | | Pocket Casts | Search for podcasts and episodes | No sign-in | | Todoist | Tasks and to-do lists | Browser sign-in | | trivago | Hotel search and prices | No sign-in | | Zapier | Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook and thousands of other apps, through Zapier | Browser sign-in | Searching also finds apps by related words. For example, searching for *Gmail* or *Outlook* finds Zapier. Two suggestions show a note after the fields when you choose them: - **Home Assistant** — change *homeassistant.local* in the address to your Home Assistant's address if it is different. For the API key, create a long-lived access token on the **Security** tab of your Home Assistant profile. - **Zapier** — after you sign in, choose on the Zapier website which Zapier actions LIMA may use. If LIMA has never been able to download the list, there are no suggestions, and the **Add App** window says *"LIMA could not get the list of suggested apps. Check your internet connection, or enter the app's details below."* You can still add an app by entering its details yourself. #### Adding an app that isn't suggested If an app gives you an MCP server address, you can add it yourself. In the **Add App** window, press `Tab` to move past the search box and the suggestions to these fields: - **Name** — the name you and LIMA use for the app, up to 60 characters. Each app needs a different name. - **Address** — the app's address, starting with `https://`. Use `http://` only for a device on your home network. Don't put a user name or password in the address; use an API key instead. - **What it's for** — a few words that tell LIMA when to use the app, for example *tasks and to-do lists*. - **Sign-in** — choose **No sign-in, or sign in with my browser if the app asks**, or **API key**. With the first choice, LIMA finds out when it connects whether the app needs a browser sign-in. - **API key** and **Key header** — only available when **Sign-in** is **API key**. Paste the key the app gave you. Leave **Key header** as *Authorization* unless the app's instructions name a different header. Then select **Add and Connect**. #### Signing in again, turning apps off, and deleting Select an app in the list, then use the buttons: - **Sign In** — shown for apps with **Browser sign-in**. LIMA forgets the app's current sign-in and opens your browser so you can sign in again. Use it when the app needs sign-in, or to switch to a different account. - **Reconnect** — shown for other apps. LIMA tries connecting to the app again. - **Turn Off** / **Turn On** — LIMA can only use apps that are turned on. Turning an app off keeps its sign-in, so turning it back on doesn't need a new sign-in. **Sign In** and **Reconnect** also turn the app back on. - **Documentation** — opens a page about using the app in your web browser. Not every app has one. - **Delete** — asks *"Delete Todoist? LIMA will forget its sign-in. This cannot be undone."*, with **No** selected by default. Select **Yes** to remove the app and its saved sign-in or API key. To use the app again, add it again and sign in again. - **Close** — closes the **Connections** window. If a suggested app moves to a new address, LIMA usually moves your connection there automatically. For an app with **Browser sign-in**, you then sign in again. #### Privacy - Your app sign-ins and API keys are stored encrypted on your PC, for your Windows account only. LIMA sends them only to the app they belong to. - If an app moves to a new address, LIMA forgets the old sign-in instead of sending it to the new address. - When LIMA uses an app for you, what the app returns is sent to LIMA's AI, like the rest of your conversation, so it can answer you. LIMA treats it as information, never as instructions to follow. --- ### Dual Input Methods Every feature in LIMA is available via both voice and keyboard — you can mix them freely: | Method | How to activate | | --- | --- | | Voice | Press `Ctrl+Alt+U` to start voice mode. Enable **voice mode on startup** in Settings, then Features, to activate automatically on launch. | | Keyboard | Press `Ctrl+Alt+H` to open the quick input field | #### Reading replies with a screen reader The conversation in LIMA's main window is a read-only transcript, with each part of a reply on its own line. Move into it with `Shift+Tab` and use your screen reader's reading keys to go through a reply line by line. LIMA opens with focus in the message box, so you can start typing straight away. !!! note "Voice mode turns off when idle" To avoid picking up background audio when you step away, voice mode switches itself off automatically after 15 minutes with no speech. Press `Ctrl+Alt+U` to start it again whenever you need it. --- ### Supported Languages LIMA currently supports: - **English** - **Vietnamese** - **Tagalog (Filipino)** You can set your preferred language in [Settings, then Audio](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/settings/). ## What LIMA Can Do Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/commands/ LIMA understands natural language — you don't need to memorise specific commands. The examples below show the kinds of things you can ask. Any phrasing that communicates the same intent will work. ### Screen Reading | What you can ask LIMA to do | Example | | --- | --- | | Describe what's on screen | *"What's on my screen?"* | | Read a specific area in detail | *"Read the main article on this page"* | | Describe an image or diagram | *"What does this chart show?"* | ### Mouse Control | What you can ask LIMA to do | Example | | --- | --- | | Click a button or link | *"Click the Submit button"* | | Right-click something | *"Right-click the file"* | | Double-click | *"Double-click the folder"* | | Move the pointer to something without clicking | *"Move the mouse to the search box"* | | Scroll up or down | *"Scroll down"* | ### Keyboard Input | What you can ask LIMA to do | Example | | --- | --- | | Type text | *"Type Hello World"* | | Type text and submit | *"Search for the weather in Dublin"* | | Press a key | *"Press Enter"*, *"Press Backspace"*, *"Press Escape"* | | Move through a form with the keyboard | *"Press Tab"*, *"Press Shift+Tab"*, *"Press Space"* | ### Window & Desktop Management | What you can ask LIMA to do | Example | | --- | --- | | Maximise or minimise a window | *"Maximise this window"* | | Open the Start menu | *"Open the Start menu"* | | Show the desktop | *"Show the desktop"* | ### Applications & Web | What you can ask LIMA to do | Example | | --- | --- | | Open an installed app | *"Open Spotify"*, *"Open Notepad"* | | Check which apps are installed | *"Do I have Excel?"*, *"Is Spotify installed?"*, *"Which web browsers do I have?"* | | Open a Windows Settings page | *"Open Bluetooth settings"*, *"Open Sound settings"* | | Open a website | *"Go to bbc.co.uk"* | | Open a file or folder on your computer | *"Open the welcome page in the LIMA Booth folder"*, *"Open my Downloads folder"* | | Search the web | *"Search for the latest news"* | ### Voice Adjustments You can ask LIMA to change how it sounds at any time during a conversation. | What you can ask LIMA to do | Example | | --- | --- | | Speak louder or quieter | *"Speak louder"* | | Speak faster or slower | *"Slow down"* | | Change voice | *"Switch to a different voice"* | ### Memory LIMA can remember information across sessions — useful for personal preferences, frequently used files, or anything you'd otherwise have to repeat. | What you can ask LIMA to do | Example | | --- | --- | | Save a fact | *"Remember that my documents folder is on the D drive"* | | Use a saved fact | LIMA automatically recalls relevant memories — no need to ask | #### Managing Memories To manage saved memories without giving a voice or text command: 1. Open the **Memories** menu in LIMA, then select **Manage Memories**. 2. Use **Tab** or **Shift+Tab** to move between the memory list, content view, and buttons. In the list, use the **Up** and **Down** arrow keys to select a memory by number. 3. Read the selected memory's full content in the content view. Use **Add**, **Edit**, **Delete**, or **Delete All** as described below. 4. Select **Close** when you have finished. ##### Add a memory 1. Select **Add**. If the list has 10 or more memories, LIMA first warns that adding will replace the oldest memory, with **No** selected by default. Select **Yes** to continue to the editor, or **No** to keep the list unchanged. 2. Enter the memory's content in the multiline editor. You can include more than one line. 3. Select **Save** to add the memory, or **Cancel** to leave without saving. If the list changes while the editor is open, **Save** may ask for renewed confirmation to replace the actual oldest memory, with **No** selected by default. Selecting **No** keeps your text in the editor so you can continue editing or cancel. LIMA assigns the next memory number automatically. You do not enter a topic or choose a number. ##### Edit a memory 1. Select a memory in the list, then select **Edit**. 2. Change its content in the multiline editor. 3. Select **Save** to keep the changes, or **Cancel** to leave the original content unchanged. Only the content can be edited. Editing does not change the memory's number or its place in the list. ##### Delete a memory or all memories - To delete one memory, select it in the list, then select **Delete**. - To delete every saved memory, select **Delete All**. Both actions ask for confirmation, with **No** selected by default. Select **Yes** only if you want to delete the memory or memories; select **No** to keep them. ##### Numbers, saved changes, and the memory limit - Memory numbers increase automatically. Existing memories are never renumbered, and deleted numbers are never reused, even after **Delete All** or a restart. - Saved additions, edits, and deletions apply to subsequent AI requests immediately and persist when you restart LIMA. - Memories saved before numbered memories were introduced receive numbers automatically. Any previous topic is included in the memory's content so that information is preserved. !!! note "Up to 10 memories" Adding a memory when all 10 places are in use automatically replaces the oldest memory. Editing a memory does not make it newer or protect it from being replaced. Existing installations with more than 10 memories keep those memories when upgraded; adding replaces just the oldest, and deleting can bring the list down to the usual limit. ### Connected Apps Once you have connected an online app from the **Connections** menu (see [Connections](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#connections-online-apps)), you can ask LIMA to use it. Name the app, or just say what you want done. | What you can ask LIMA to do | Example | | --- | --- | | Add a task | *"Add buy milk to my Todoist for tomorrow"* | | Check what's in an app | *"What's due today in Todoist?"* | | Find a note or document | *"Find my Notion page about the holiday plans"* | | Search for flights or hotels | *"Search Kiwi.com for flights from Sydney to Manila next Friday"*, *"Find a hotel in Hanoi on trivago"* | | Get help with a Microsoft product | *"Ask Microsoft Learn how to turn on Narrator"* | | Find out what an app can do | *"What can you do in Todoist?"* | LIMA can only use apps that are turned on in the **Connections** window. If you ask for an app you haven't connected, LIMA tells you that you can connect it from the **Connections** menu. #### What happens when LIMA uses an app 1. **LIMA looks up what the app can do.** This happens straight away, without asking. LIMA says, for example, *"Checked the Todoist tools."* 2. **LIMA asks before it does anything in the app**, the same way it asks before any other action. It names the action and the app, then reads the details it filled in, for example: *"Next, I will run add task in Todoist. Content: buy milk. Yes or no?"* The action's name and details come from the app, so the wording differs from app to app. 3. **Press `Y` or `Ctrl+Alt+Y` to approve**, or `N` or `Ctrl+Alt+N` to deny, then say or type what to do instead. See [Approving actions](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#approving-actions). 4. **LIMA says it's done**, for example *"Done in Todoist."*, then tells you the result. To keep the approval prompt short, LIMA reads up to eight details, cuts long text short and says how much it left out (for example *"and 40 more words"*). Anything that looks like a password, key or token is read as *"hidden"*. !!! note "Sending something other people will see" Before LIMA uses an app to send, post or share something other people will see, such as an email, a message or a comment, it reads you the full text, then asks whether to send it. Answer with `Y` or `N`, the same as for any other action. The approval prompt reads only the start of long text, so if LIMA asks to send something it hasn't read to you, press `N` and ask it to read the full text first. If an app needs you to sign in again, LIMA tells you instead of opening your browser in the middle of a task, for example: *"Todoist needs you to sign in. Open the Connections menu, choose Todoist, then select Sign In."* See [An app needs me to sign in](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/support/#an-app-needs-me-to-sign-in). ## Keyboard Shortcuts Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/keyboard-shortcuts/ LIMA provides six default hotkeys using `Ctrl+Alt` combinations. All hotkeys are fully customisable in [Settings, then Hot keys](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/settings/#hot-keys). ### Default Hotkeys | Hotkey | Action | |---|---| | `Ctrl+Alt+U` | Start or stop voice mode — toggles the microphone on and off | | `Ctrl+Alt+K` | Stop LIMA speaking immediately | | `Ctrl+Alt+J` | Observe screen — LIMA describes what's currently on screen | | `Ctrl+Alt+H` | Quick input — open a text field to type a command without using your voice | | `Ctrl+Alt+Y` | Approve the action LIMA is waiting on — lets it go ahead | | `Ctrl+Alt+N` | Deny the action LIMA is waiting on, then say or type what to do instead | ### While LIMA Is Waiting for Approval When LIMA asks "Yes or no?" before an action, two plain keys answer it from any program: | Key | Action | |---|---| | `Y` | Approve the action — same as `Ctrl+Alt+Y` | | `N` | Deny the action, then say or type what to do instead — same as `Ctrl+Alt+N` | These two keys only answer LIMA while it is waiting. Once you answer, they type normally again. ### Customising Hotkeys 1. Open **Settings** from the **File menu, then Settings**. 2. Go to **Hot keys**. 3. Select the hotkey you want to change. 4. Press your desired key combination. 5. Select **Save**. !!! warning Avoid combinations already used by your operating system or your screen reader (e.g. NVDA uses `Insert` as its modifier key). ### Using LIMA Alongside a Screen Reader If you run LIMA alongside NVDA or JAWS, make sure there are no hotkey conflicts. You can check NVDA's keyboard assignments in the **NVDA menu, then Preferences, then Input Gestures**. ## Settings Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/settings/ Open LIMA settings from the **File menu, then Settings**. ### Appearance | Setting | Description | | --- | --- | | **Text Size** | Font size for the chat history. Options: 10–30 pt. Default: 14 pt. | ### Audio | Setting | Description | | --- | --- | | **Language** | Sets the language for both voice input and AI responses. Options: English, Vietnamese, Tagalog. | | **Text-to-Speech voice** | The voice LIMA uses for its responses. See the voice list below. | | **Speech rate** | How fast LIMA speaks. Options: slow, medium, fast, fastest. | | **Text-to-Speech mode** | How LIMA generates its voice. **Online (Conversational voice)** uses a natural-sounding voice and starts speaking almost immediately — higher quality, but requires an internet connection. **Offline (Robot Style voice)** uses a voice built into your computer — it works without internet and keeps speech on your device, but sounds more robotic. | | **Microphone sensitivity** | How sensitive the microphone is to your voice. Increase if LIMA misses commands; decrease if it triggers accidentally. | | **Finished-speaking sensitivity** | How quickly LIMA decides you have finished talking and starts to reply. A lower setting makes LIMA respond sooner but it may cut you off; a higher setting makes it wait a little longer to be sure you're done. Default: 0.75. If LIMA often replies before you have finished, for example because you pause to think, speak with an accent, or speak in a second language, raise this setting a step at a time. | #### Available voices | Voice | Description | | --- | --- | | Despina | Chill Young Female | | Enceladus | Middle-Aged Male | | Rasalgethi | Chill Young Male | | Laomedeia | Professional Woman | | Algenib | Australian Man | | Aoede | Australian Woman | | Sadaltager | British Man | | Callirrhoe | British Woman | !!! note Algenib, Aoede, Sadaltager, and Callirrhoe are available for English and Vietnamese only. Tagalog uses Despina, Enceladus, Rasalgethi, and Laomedeia. ### Hot keys Six hotkeys can be customised here. See [Keyboard Shortcuts](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/keyboard-shortcuts/) for the full list and instructions. ### Features | Setting | Description | | --- | --- | | **Descriptive Video Service (DVS)** | Automatically narrates what is happening on screen during YouTube and Facebook videos. Options: off, minimal, regular, verbose. Default: regular. | | **Dynamic Website Narration (DWN)** | Automatically reads out changes on websites as you browse. Options: off, minimal, regular, verbose. Default: regular. | | **Screen to capture** | Which display LIMA screenshots when observing your screen. Options: Main screen only, All screens (span every monitor). Default: Main screen only. | | **AI model** | The AI that powers all of LIMA's responses and screen reading. See the model list below. | | **Thinking level** | How much the AI model reasons before answering. Off is fastest; higher levels reason more deeply but respond more slowly. Options: off, low, medium, high. Default: low. | | **Conversation history (messages)** | How many of your recent messages LIMA keeps in mind during a conversation. Options: 10, 15, 20, 30, 50. Default: 20. | | **Screenshot count** | How many recent pictures of your screen LIMA looks at when answering. More can improve accuracy but is a little slower. Options: 1–5. Default: 2. | | **Maximum agent steps** | How many steps LIMA may take to finish one request before it stops and tells you. Raising it lets longer tasks finish, but setting it too high risks getting stuck in a loop. Options: 10, 20, 40, 80, 120, 200. Default: 80. | | **Enable voice mode on startup** | When enabled, voice mode activates automatically when LIMA starts. | | **Minimize to tray on close** | When enabled, closing the LIMA window sends it to the system tray instead of exiting. | #### Available AI models | Model | Plan required | Notes | | --- | --- | --- | | Qwen3.8 (Qwen) | All plans | Fast and capable. The default model on every plan. | | Opus 5.5 (Anthropic) | Pro | Complex tasks; consumes usage quickly. | | GPT-5.5 (OpenAI) | Pro | Most capable, slower. | | GPT-5.6 Luna (OpenAI) | Pro | Fast and capable. | | Kimi K2.6 (Moonshot) | Standard or higher | Fast and smart; thinks before answering. | | V4.1 Flash (DeepSeek) | Go or higher | Cheap and fast, good at everyday tasks. | | Muse Glimmer (Meta) | All plans | Small and fast, good at everyday tasks. | Existing Opus 4.8 selections automatically use Opus 5.5. ### Memories Memories are not set in Settings. LIMA holds up to 10 memories; adding one when the list is full replaces the oldest. See [Memory](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#memory). ## Privacy & Your Data Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/privacy/ LIMA needs the internet to understand your screen and your voice, so some of what you see, say, and type leaves your computer. This page explains what is sent, where it goes, and what stays on your computer. ### What LIMA sends | What | When | Where it goes | | --- | --- | --- | | Pictures of your screen | When you ask about your screen, while LIMA carries out a task, and during Descriptive Video Service (DVS) and Dynamic Website Narration (DWN) | The AI model you chose in [Settings](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/settings/#available-ai-models), through the OpenRouter AI service | | Your requests and recent conversation | Each time you ask LIMA something, by voice or by typing. This includes recent messages from the current conversation and your saved memories | The AI model you chose, through OpenRouter | | Contents of files LIMA reads | Only when you ask LIMA to read or search your files | The AI model you chose, through OpenRouter, as part of your request | | Your voice | While voice mode is on | The Roscommon Systems speech service, which turns it into text | | LIMA's replies, to be spoken | When **Text-to-Speech mode** is **Online (Conversational voice)** | The Roscommon Systems speech service, which turns them into speech | | Web searches | When LIMA searches the web for you | A web search service (Tavily) and the AI model you chose | | Your Google account email | When you sign in, and when LIMA checks your plan and usage | Roscommon Systems' account service | | A crash report | Only if LIMA crashes **and** you choose **Submit Crash Log** | Roscommon Systems | If you choose **Don't Submit**, nothing is sent. ### What stays on your computer These are kept in LIMA's data folder on your computer: - Your settings - Your saved memories (see [Memory](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#memory)) - Your saved conversations (see [Conversations](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#conversations)). Deleting a conversation removes it from your computer. - LIMA's log files, which help support find problems ### Keeping more on your computer - Choose **Offline (Robot Style voice)** in **Settings, then Audio** to keep LIMA's spoken replies on your computer. - Use quick input (`Ctrl+Alt+H`) instead of voice mode, so no audio leaves your computer. - Set **Screen to capture** to **Main screen only** in **Settings, then Features**, so LIMA does not look at your other monitors. - Before you ask about your screen, close or minimise windows you don't want described. LIMA asks before it carries out any action on your computer. See [Approving actions](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#approving-actions). ### Questions For questions about your data, see [Contact Support](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/support/#contact-support). ## Support Source: https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/support/ These pages describe **LIMA 2.0.0.0**, released on 20 October 2026. To check your version, open the **About** dialog. If you have a different version, some steps may not match. ### Troubleshooting #### LIMA is not responding to my voice 1. Check that your microphone is connected and selected as the default recording device in **Windows Sound Settings**. 2. Try increasing the **Microphone sensitivity** setting under **Settings, then Audio**. 3. Press `Ctrl+Alt+U` to make sure voice mode is active — LIMA says *"Voice mode on"* when it starts listening. 4. If LIMA says *"Voice mode isn't available right now. Please try again in a few minutes."*, LIMA couldn't reach its speech service and has turned voice mode off. Check your internet connection, wait a few minutes, then press `Ctrl+Alt+U` to turn voice mode back on. If the message keeps coming back while your internet is working, contact support and tell us the time it happened. #### LIMA replies before I've finished speaking LIMA decides you have finished when you pause. If you pause to think, speak with an accent, or speak in a second language, it may reply too early. 1. Open **Settings, then Audio**. 2. Raise **Finished-speaking sensitivity** a step from the default of 0.75, then try again. 3. Keep raising it until LIMA waits for you. If it starts to feel slow to reply, lower it by one step. #### LIMA activated but didn't understand my command - Speak clearly and at a normal pace. - Try rephrasing — LIMA understands natural language, so there's no single correct phrasing. - Check your internet connection. AI features require an active connection. #### LIMA says it couldn't reach the AI service LIMA says *"I couldn't reach the AI service. Please check your internet connection and try again."* when your computer can't connect to the AI that answers your requests. LIMA has already tried once more on its own before telling you. 1. Check that your internet connection is working, for example by opening a website. 2. If you use a VPN, firewall, or work network, check that it isn't blocking LIMA. 3. Ask your question again. If the message keeps coming back while your internet is working, contact support and tell us the time it happened. If LIMA instead says *"a connection error occurred"*, the problem is usually on the AI service's side rather than your connection. Wait a minute and try again. ##### What works while the connection is down - **Stops until you are back online:** AI replies, screen descriptions, web searches, Descriptive Video Service, and Dynamic Website Narration. - **Voice input:** LIMA keeps trying to reconnect to the speech service on its own. Until it does, type your request with `Ctrl+Alt+H` instead. - **LIMA's voice:** if the online voice can't be reached, LIMA switches to the offline voice built into your computer, so you still hear it. You can also choose **Offline (Robot Style voice)** in **Settings, then Audio** yourself. - **Still works:** the LIMA window, hotkeys, Settings, and your saved conversations and memories. #### The screen description is inaccurate or incomplete - Press `Ctrl+Alt+J` to prompt LIMA to re-observe the screen. - Increase the **DVS** or **DWN** narration level in **Settings, then Features**, if you want more detail during video or web browsing. - If a specific application is consistently misread, contact support with the application name. - LIMA reads your screen by taking screenshots. Privacy add-ons or features that black out or obscure the screen (such as screen-capture blockers or privacy filters) prevent LIMA from seeing your display and are not compatible with image descriptions. Disable them to use screen reading. #### LIMA says a window is running as administrator Some programs, such as Registry Editor or a terminal opened with **Run as administrator**, have administrator rights. Windows doesn't let a program without those rights read or control them, so LIMA can't tell what is in that window, select anything in it, or type into it. To let LIMA control administrator programs, run LIMA as administrator: 1. Exit LIMA completely: open the LIMA icon in the system tray and choose **Exit**. 2. Press the Windows key, type **LIMA**, then press `Ctrl+Shift+Enter` to start it as administrator. 3. When Windows asks whether to let LIMA make changes to your device, choose **Yes**. Only run LIMA as administrator when you need it. While it does, the actions you approve also run with administrator rights. #### LIMA won't start after an update 1. Restart your computer. 2. If the issue persists, uninstall LIMA from **Windows Settings, then Apps**, then reinstall from [roscommon.systems/lima](https://www.roscommon.systems/lima). 3. Your settings are saved on your computer. If you're worried about losing them during a reinstall, make a note of your chosen voice, language, and hotkeys so you can set them again afterwards. #### Hotkeys are not working - Another application may be intercepting the key combination. Try changing the hotkey in **Settings, then Hot keys**. - Check that LIMA is running (look for the LIMA icon in the system tray). #### I can't sign in, or my plan shows as Free LIMA signs you in with your Google account — there is no licence key to enter. 1. Check your internet connection — signing in needs a working internet connection to confirm your account. 2. Make sure you finished signing in **in the browser window that opens**, then returned to LIMA. If no browser opened, check that you have a default browser set. 3. **Sign in with the same email address you used to purchase LIMA.** Your plan is matched to your account by email, so a different address will show as the free tier. If you have a plan but LIMA shows **Free**, sign out (**the File menu, then Sign Out**) and sign back in with the correct account. 4. If you don't have a plan yet, choose **Buy a plan** to open the store, or upgrade to a **Go**, **Standard**, or **Pro** plan at any time. 5. If the problem persists, contact support with the email address you signed in with and the error message shown. #### LIMA says my usage limit has been reached Every LIMA plan, including Free, includes a usage allowance that resets each month. When you reach the limit, AI features stop responding until the allowance resets. - **To continue immediately** on the Free, Go, or Standard plan, upgrade your plan at the [Roscommon Systems store](https://shop.roscommon.systems/). The usage limit message tells you that you can wait or upgrade. - **On the Pro plan**, there is no larger plan to move to. The message asks you to contact us; see [Contact Support](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/support/#contact-support). - **To wait for the reset**, you don't need to do anything: the allowance renews automatically once a month. The usage limit message tells you the date it renews, and you can check it anytime from **the File menu, then Subscription Information**. If you believe the limit was reached in error, contact support. #### LIMA won't open / a second window doesn't appear Only one instance of LIMA can run at a time. If LIMA appears to be closed but won't reopen, it may still be running in the background. 1. Look for the LIMA icon in the **system tray** (the notification area of the taskbar). Select it to bring the window back. 2. If it's not in the tray, open **Task Manager** (`Ctrl+Shift+Esc`), find LIMA in the list, and select **End Task**, then relaunch LIMA. #### An app needs me to sign in An app in [Connections](https://docs.roscommon.systems/lima/features/#connections-online-apps) shows **On, needs sign-in**, or LIMA says, for example, *"Todoist needs you to sign in. Open the Connections menu, choose Todoist, then select Sign In."* Sign-ins to apps can run out, and LIMA never opens your browser in the middle of a task, so you sign in again from the **Connections** window: 1. In the LIMA window, press `Alt`, use the arrow keys to move to **Connections**, then select **Manage Connections**. 2. In the list, select the app. 3. Press `Tab` until you reach **Sign In**, then select it. Your web browser opens at the app's sign-in page. 4. Sign in and allow LIMA access. When the browser page says *"Signed in to LIMA"*, close the tab and return to LIMA. You have five minutes to finish signing in. If you take longer, LIMA says *"The sign-in to Todoist took too long, so LIMA stopped waiting."* If you select **Cancel** in LIMA, or don't allow access in the browser, LIMA says *"The sign-in to Todoist was cancelled."* In both cases, select **Sign In** again to try again. If LIMA says *"LIMA could not get ready for the sign-in, because another program is using the connection it needs. Restart your computer, then try again."*, restart your computer, then select **Sign In** again. #### An app could not be reached An app shows **On, could not be reached**, or LIMA says, for example, *"LIMA could not reach Todoist. Check your internet connection and try again."* 1. Check that your internet connection is working, for example by opening a website. 2. If you use a VPN, firewall, or work network, check that it isn't blocking LIMA. 3. For a device on your home network, such as Home Assistant, check that the device is on and that its address in the app's details is right. 4. In the **Connections** window, select the app, then select **Reconnect** (or **Sign In** for an app with browser sign-in). #### An app does not let LIMA sign in yet LIMA says, for example, *"Slack does not let LIMA sign in yet. This app only works with programs that are registered with it in advance."*, and the app shows **On, not working**. Some apps only let programs they have approved in advance sign in, and LIMA isn't one of them yet for that app. There's nothing to fix on your computer. You can delete the app from the **Connections** window, or turn it off. If the app's own instructions offer an API key instead, you can add it again with **Sign-in** set to **API key**. If LIMA instead says *"Asana refused LIMA's sign-in. Try again later, and if it keeps happening, update LIMA."*, try again later. If it keeps happening, install the latest version of LIMA. #### The browser did not open to sign in to an app LIMA says *"LIMA could not open your web browser to sign in."* 1. Check that you have a default web browser: open **Windows Settings, then Apps, then Default apps**. 2. In the **Connections** window, select the app, then select **Sign In** again. If LIMA can't open an app's documentation, it says *"LIMA could not open your web browser. The documentation is at"*, followed by the address, so you can open it yourself. #### An app did not accept my API key LIMA says, for example, *"Home Assistant did not accept the API key."*, and the app shows **On, not working**. 1. Check with the app that the key is still valid, and that you copied all of it. 2. Check that **Key header** matches the app's instructions. Leave it as *Authorization* unless they name a different header. 3. LIMA can't change a saved key. In the **Connections** window, select the app, select **Delete**, then add it again with the correct key. For Home Assistant, the API key is a long-lived access token, which you create on the **Security** tab of your Home Assistant profile. If LIMA says *"No API key is saved for this app. Delete it and add it again with its key."*, delete the app, then add it again with its key. #### Other messages about connected apps - *"Todoist refused the connection. Check that your account can use it."* — the app turned down your account. Check with the app that your account can use it. - *"LIMA reached the address, but found no app connection there. Check the address for Todoist."* — the address is wrong. Delete the app, then add it again with the correct address. - *"Todoist has moved to a new address:"* followed by the address — delete the app from the **Connections** window, then add it again with the new address. - *"Todoist could not be used because of an error. Try again later."* — something unexpected went wrong. Wait a while, then select **Reconnect** or **Sign In**. If it keeps happening, contact support. - *"You already have an app called Todoist. Choose a different name."* — each app needs its own name. Change **Name** in the **Add App** window. - *"The address must start with https:// (or http:// for a device on your home network). Apps that have to be installed on this PC are not supported yet."* — LIMA only connects to online apps. Check the address, or use the app's online address if it has one. --- ### Contact Support If you can't resolve your issue with the steps above, our support team is here to help. | Channel | Details | | --- | --- | | **Email** | hello@roscommonsystems.com | | **Phone** | 1300 157 869 (Australia) | | **Enterprise support** | Dedicated support line provided in your Enterprise welcome email | !!! tip When contacting support, include your LIMA version number (visible in the **About** dialog from the menu bar) and a brief description of what you were doing when the issue occurred.
